Mora & Gaia, the mares

Mora, with her striking half-Appaloosa markings, and Gaia, a beautiful Pinto with unique and eye-catching patterns splashed across her coat, deserved so much better.

Mora and Gaia arrived at our farm carrying a heavy burden: the deep scars of physical abuse. It’s heartbreaking to think that these two gentle mares, just two and four years old, had already learned to fear humans. Their past experiences had left them terrified, shrinking away from any touch.

Mora, with her striking half-Appaloosa markings, and Gaia, a beautiful Pinto with unique and eye-catching patterns splashed across her coat, deserved so much better. It’s taken us nearly two years of painstaking, tender care – countless hours of gentle words, soft touches, and patient reassurance – to even begin to earn their trust. Just seeing them finally venturing out into our pastures, tentatively at first, then with growing confidence, has been a huge victory. It's a testament to their resilience and the power of kindness. Mora, with her quiet strength, and Gaia, with her inquisitive spirit, are slowly learning what it means to feel safe and loved.

While their past trauma may mean they’ll never be fully rideable, their inherently docile nature gives us hope. We believe that one day, they might be able to offer comfort and healing to others through therapeutic interactions, offering a gentle reminder that even after the darkest times, there is still hope for connection and healing.
